Als Gips werden sowohl das in der Natur vorkommende Gips- und Anhydritgestein (Naturgips), das gleichwertige Produkt aus Rauchgas-Entschwefelungs-Anlagen (REA-Gips) oder aus industriellen Prozessen (Chemie-Gips), sowie das beim Brennen dieser Ausgangsstoffe entstehende Erzeugnis (Branntgips, Anhydritbinder, Gipsbinder) bezeichnet.
